about

9/09/2022 - Jacques Labouchere is excited to announce the first single release, “Slava Ukraini! (Song For The Madman), off of his upcoming fifth studio album, “(K)erbside”, due for release in early 2023. He took a pause from completing the finishing touches on his record he had been recording under lockdown when he decided it was more important to focus on this one song he wrote for Ukraine while it was still relevant. Jacques wishes for the song to be heard internationally, but especially by Ukrainians everywhere who need our support more than ever right now as they fight off an illegal invasion of their homeland by Russia.

Stand with Ukraine Gothenburg, an organization holding weekly demonstrations against the invasion, asked Jacques to perform one of his songs and give a speech at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg on Saturday March 26th. After the event, he felt so inspired to write a song for Ukraine and in a little less than a month’s time, before his departure to the US to perform at Folk Alliance International, he managed to do just that as well as meet and become friends with Ukrainian refugees living in Gothenburg and with their help and support assembled a choir to sing on the recording of the song. While in the US, the post-production, mixing and mastering was completed by his friend and producer Alexandre Moriera.

“The song is not just ‘my song” Labouchere says… “it’s our song” for Ukraine and for the rest of the world to hear my friend’s voices and the voices of their fellow country men and women and children. To give all Ukrainians strength whether they are in Ukraine still, or safely in refuge in another country adapting to a new life with the worries and anxiety they must have every day while hoping and wishing for an end to Russia’s invasion. I look at the verses as my own personal letter to the madman and bully that Vlad is.” He then looks at me wide eyed and sings a line from one of its verses: “Hey comrade, this here’s not your land! We can tell by the blood of your hands, of children who can’t understand, the territorial claims of a madman!”

lyrics

Slava Ukraini (“Song For The Madman”)

Pre-Chorus

Slava Ukraini, Heroiam Slava!

1st Verse
Hey comrad! This here’s not your land,
We can tell by the blood on your hands,
Of children who can’t understand,
The territorial claims of a madman!

Chorus
Slava Ukraini, Heroiam Slava!

2nd Verse
So disarm your butchering bombs,
Cowardly used for the old Kremlin’s fun,
Forcing free families to run,
Even after your destruction is done!

Chorus
Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava!

3rd verse
Your war cannot be won,
With any missle, tank, nuke or gun,
For the hope that we hold in our hearts,
Is stronger than any villain that tries to tear us apart!

Chorus x2

Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava!
Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava!
